ISSUE
Some 2005 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis and Town Car vehicles built before 9/18/2004, may exhibit numerous anti-lock brake system (ABS) wheel speed sensor diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) such as C1145, C1155, C1175, C1296, C1297, C1298, C1299 and C1222. This may be due to water intrusion into the ABS module connector.

ACTION
Remove any moisture from the ABS connector, apply Motorcraft RTV Silicone Sealant to the wires on the back of the connector, and if necessary replace the ABS module. Refer to the following Service Procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE
PRIOR TO PERFORMING THIS TSB ENSURE ALL TIRES ON THE VEHICLE ARE THE CORRECT SIZE, AS ORIGINALLY EQUIPPED.

1. Disconnect the ABS module connector C135.

2. Inspect the connector and ABS module for signs of moisture and/or pin corrosion. If water or corrosion are present on the harness side, clean the connector with Motorcraft Brake Cleaner (PM-4). If the ABS module connection is wet, dry it out with low pressure compressed air, DO NOT use brake cleaner on the ABS module connection. If the ABS module pins are corroded, replace the module. Refer to Workshop Manual Section 206-09.

3. Remove the back cover of the ABS connector and apply Motorcraft RTV Silicone Sealant (TA-31) to the wires where they enter the back of connector.

NOTE
BE CAREFUL NOT APPLY ANY SILICONE TO THE CONNECTOR WHERE IT PLUGS INTO THE ABS MODULE, THIS CONNECTION MUST BE CLEAN AND DRY.

4. Prior to the silicone setting up, reinstall the back of the connector and reconnect it to the ABS module (Figure 1).

NOTE
WHEN RECONNECTING THE ABS CONNECTOR, MAKE SURE THE LOCKING SLIDE IS FULLY SEATED AND LOCKED.

5. Push harness down along the side of the air box to create a drip loop that will allow water to drain (Figure 2).
