Removal
1. CAUTION: Only remove the flex couplings from the driveshaft if it is necessary to install new flex coupling/alignment bushings. Install new alignment bushings and flex couplings as a pair. Balance the driveshaft with the flex couplings installed.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position on a hoist.
2. Remove the exhaust system.
3. Remove the heat shield.

4. CAUTION: To make sure assembly is in the exact same location, index-mark the bolt, nut, washer, flex coupling and pinion flange with paint or marker. Using a different color paint or marker, index-mark the 2nd bolt, nut and washer that retain the driveshaft and flex coupling to the pinion flange and the transmission flange. Do not index-mark the 3rd bolt, nut and washer that retain the driveshaft and flex coupling to the pinion flange. These fasteners are balance weights. Always assemble them in their original positions. Failure to do so can cause a driveshaft NVH concern.

Index-mark the components.

5. CAUTION: Do not remove the flex coupling-to-driveshaft bolts.

NOTE: The bolt heads are serrated. Hold the bolt and loosen the nut.

Remove the 3 flex coupling-to-flange bolt nuts and flex coupling-to-flange bolts.

7. NOTE: Index-mark the driveshaft on both sides of the slip joint.

Slide the front shaft assembly rearward.
8. Remove the center support bearing bolts, then the driveshaft assembly.

Installation
1. Add 1 gram of grease to both alignment bushing cavities.

2. CAUTION: Align the index marks or a driveshaft NVH concern can occur.

Align the index marks and position the alignment bushing on the pinion flange piloting stem.

3. CAUTION: Install the selective spacers and bolts in their original positions.

NOTE: Do not tighten the bolts at this time.

Install the center support bearing bolts hand-tight.
4. Slide the front shaft assembly forward.

5. CAUTION: Align the index marks or driveshaft NVH can occur.

Align the index marks and position the alignment bushing on the transmission flange piloting stem.

6. CAUTION: Install the bolts, washers and nuts in their original positions or a driveshaft NVH concern can occur. Install the driveshaft flex coupling bolts with the head of the bolt seated against the flange, and the nuts seated against the flex coupling. Install the short bolts in the transmission flange and the long bolts in the drive pinion flange.

NOTE: The bolt heads are serrated. Hold the bolt and tighten the nut.

Install all 6 of the flex coupling-to-flange bolt nuts and flex coupling-to-flange bolts.
^ Coat the nut and bolt threads with Threadlock 262.
^ Tighten to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.).

7. CAUTION: Tighten the center support bearing bolts evenly to avoid twisting the bracket.

Tighten the center support bearing bolts.
^ Tighten to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the heat shield.
9. Install the exhaust system.
