Removal and Installation
CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. Avoid exposing any modules to static electrical charges, as this may cause damage to the modules.
1. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
2. Remove the 2 screws, position the parking brake release assembly aside and remove the steering column cover reinforcement.
- To install, tighten to 4 Nm (35 lb-in).
3. Remove the 5 bolts and the steering column reinforcement.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
4. From under the hood, loosen the bolt and disconnect the LH bulkhead connector.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
5. Release the LH bulkhead connector from the dash panel.
6. Open the glove compartment. Disconnect the glove compartment isolator.
7. While pushing in on the 2 glove compartment door tabs, position the glove compartment downward.
8. Remove the instrument panel support brace bolt through the glove compartment opening.
- Close the glove compartment door.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
9. Remove the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
10. Position the LH and RH door weatherstrip seals aside.
11. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.
12. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels.
13. Remove the RH ground bolt.
- To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
14. Disconnect the 4 RH instrument panel wiring harness electrical connectors.
15. Remove the LH ground bolt.
- To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
16. Disconnect the 2 LH instrument panel wiring harness connectors.
17. Disconnect the parking brake release vacuum connector.
18. Disconnect the vacuum connector.
19. Remove the nut and position the steering column brace aside.
- To install, tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
20. Remove and discard the intermediate shaft pinch bolt.
- Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column shaft.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
21. Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column shift tube lever and the steering column bracket.
22. Remove the pin-type retainer and the tunnel brace trim cover.
23. Remove the 4 nuts and the instrument panel tunnel brace.
- To install, tighten to 24 Nm (18 lb-ft).
24. Remove the instrument panel defroster opening grille.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
25. Remove the instrument panel cowl top bracket bolt.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
26. Remove the 3 instrument panel cowl top bracket bolts.
- To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
27. Remove the RH instrument panel cowl side nut.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
28. Remove the upper LH instrument panel cowl side nut.
- To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
29. Remove the lower LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
30. NOTE: Removing the instrument panel from the vehicle requires an assistant.
Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
31. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
