Wheel and Tire

Removal

1. WARNING: The electrical power to the air suspension system must be turned off prior to hoisting, jacking or towing an air suspension vehicle. Failure to do so can result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs, which can result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

If equipped, turn the air suspension service switch to the OFF position.

2. CAUTION: Do not use heat to loosen a seized wheel nut. Heat can damage the wheel and wheel bearings.

Remove the wheel cover or ornament and loosen, but do not remove, the wheel nuts.
3. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

4. CAUTION: Do not use heat to loosen a seized wheel. Heat can shorten the life of the wheel and damage the wheel bearings. If the wheel cannot be removed by hand, use a wheel puller.

Installation

1. WARNING: When a wheel is installed, always remove any corrosion, dirt or foreign material present on the mounting surfaces of the wheel or the surface of the wheel hub, brake drum or brake disc that contacts the wheel. Installing wheels without correct metal-to-metal contact at the wheel mounting surfaces can cause the wheel nuts to loosen and the wheel to come off while the vehicle is in motion, resulting in loss of control. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

Position the wheel and tire on the vehicle.

2. CAUTION: Failure to tighten the wheel nuts in a star pattern can result in high brake disc runout, which will speed up the development of brake roughness, shudder and vibration.

Tighten the wheel nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) in a star-pattern.

3. NOTE: If the wheel cover is attached by plastic retainer nuts, make sure to tighten them to specification.

Install the wheel cover or ornament.
4. If equipped, turn the air suspension service switch to the ON position.
