Seats: Description and Operation

SEATS

Front
The front seats are available in 3 styles:
- Executive series (power lumbar)
- Signature series (trim cover like Executive series with memory, power lumbar and heat standard)
- Signature L series (unique trim style with memory, power lumbar and heat standard)

The power seats have the following features:
- horizontal, vertical and front and rear height adjustments
- power recline
- power lumbar (if equipped)
- heat (if equipped)
- front seat backrest head restraint

The LH front seat is also programmable to 2 different driver positions and has an easy entry/easy exit feature. Memory is not available on Executive series.
The front 20 percent seat has the following features:

- NOTE: Refer to Seat Armrest - Front for the sequence of steps needed for the removal and installation of the seat armrest lid. Seat Armrest - Front

Center console lid that opens in 2 directions
- Cup holder that is built into the cushion
- Telephone docking station in console (if equipped)
- Seat backrest impact locking pin (keeps the seat backrest locked in the vertical position, in the event of a collision)

Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS)

CAUTION: If only installing a new front passenger seat cushion trim cover, the occupant classification sensor must be rezeroed.

NOTE: It is necessary to rezero the OCS system when a front passenger seat cushion is disassembled, a new trim cover installed or an OCS service kit is installed. A diagnostic tool is used to trigger the active command to carry out rezeroing of the OCS system.

The seat occupant classification sensor (OCS) system is found only on the front passenger seat. The OCS system components (seat cushion foam pad, bladder with pressure sensor and electronic control unit) are calibrated to each other and are serviced as an assembly. OCS system components are not to be installed separately. If installing a new OCS system, OCS system component or seat cushion foam pad, a new OCS system service kit (seat cushion foam pad, bladder, bladder with pressure sensor and electronic control unit) must be installed as an assembly.

If the OCS needs to be serviced or rezeroed, refer to Air Bag Systems.

Belt Tension Sensor (BTS)
The BTS is part of the safety belt buckle on the front outboard passenger seat only. It is part of the supplemental restraint system (SRS). It connects electrically to the passenger seat wire harness. For diagnostic information, refer to Air Bag Systems. For specific removal and installation information.

Lumbar Support
The seat has an electro-mechanical front seat backrest pad adjuster. The lumbar switch adjustment is on the inboard side of the front face of the front seat cushion.

Front Seat Track Motor and Transmission Assembly

NOTE: If a seat track motor is inoperative or the front seat track motor and transmission assembly is identified as the source of a noise, install a new front seat track motor and transmission assembly.

The front seat track motor and transmission assembly (driver 54617D67, passenger 54617D66) on this vehicle is serviceable. To install a new front seat track motor and transmission assembly, partial disassembly of the seat track is required.

Power Recliner
The power recliner tilts the seat backrest REARWARD or FORWARD and is controlled by the seat regulator control switch.

Heated Seats

NOTE:
- If a passenger seat cushion heater mat is faulty, a new OCS service kit must be installed and a new cushion heater mat must be installed to the OCS service kit foam pad.
- When installing an OCS service kit equipped with heated seats, a new seat cushion heater mat must be installed. Do not reuse the original equipment manufacture (OEM) OCS cushion heater mat. The OCS service kit does not come with a cushion heater mat.
- When installing a new driver seat heater mat (cushion or backrest) or passenger seat backrest heater mat, a new foam pad with the heater mat already attached is required. A new seat heater mat by itself is not available for service for the driver seat.

Each heated seat is controlled by a switch on the door trim panel.

The heated seat system:
- will have one heated seat module attached to the inside of the passenger front door trim panel.
- will only operate with the ignition switch in RUN.
- will operate with battery voltage as low as 9 volts.
- will maintain a temperature automatically once it is selected.
- will heat to the selected temperature each time the ignition switch is turned to RUN if the heated seat is not switched OFF.

Driver Seat Module
The driver seat module is attached to the driver seat track.

Easy Entry/Easy Exit
The easy entry/easy exit feature of the driver seat moves the seat 2 inches REARWARD when the ignition key is removed.

The easy entry/easy exit feature of the driver seat moves the seat 2 inches FORWARD when:
- the ignition switch is turned to RUN.
- the driver door is opened, then closed.

Programmable
The memory seat system allows the recall of previously stored positions of the driver seat using the remote keyless entry transmitter or the memory set/recall switch located on the door panel.

Memory Seat Position Sensors
On vehicles with a driver memory seat, the driver power seat track is equipped with memory seat position sensors for the horizontal, front UP/DOWN and rear UP/DOWN directions. The memory seat position sensors are located on each of the seat track motors and are serviced separately from the power seat track assembly. The driver memory seat also has a memory seat position sensor for the backrest recliner. This sensor is serviced as an assembly with the motor and recliner mechanism.

After installing a new memory seat position sensor, the driver seat must be cycled full range of travel to zero that sensor. For example, if only a new horizontal memory seat position sensor was installed, position the seat all the way FORWARD and then REARWARD.

Side Air Bag

WARNING: Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats with side air bags cannot be repaired; they are to be replaced. Cleaning is permissible.

Driver and passenger side air bags are attached to the seat backrest frame. For diagnostic information or if the side air bag has been deployed, refer to Air Bag Systems.

If a side air bag deployment took place, a new seat back pad, trim cover and side air bag module must be installed. Install a new seat back frame, if necessary.

Rear

Heated Seats
Signature L rear seats are equipped with the heated seat system at the LH and RH side positions.

Each heated seat is controlled by a switch on the rear door trim panel.
The heated seat system:
- will only operate with the ignition switch in RUN.
- will operate with battery voltage as low as 9 volts.
- will automatically maintain a temperature once it is selected.
- will heat to the selected temperature each time the ignition switch is turned to RUN if the heated seat is not switched OFF.

An amenities package for these vehicles features a rear seat armrest with storage bin, tissue holder and dual power points. The Signature L and Executive L versions also include redundant front passenger fore/aft seat control and audio/climate controls.
