MERCURY:

ISSUE
On some 2005-2006 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis and 2006 Town Car vehicles, complaints of light steering efforts at highway speeds have been received. This may be due to the variable assist power steering (VAPS) system defaulting to full assist. The default condition will last until the next key on/off cycle and may occur when the customer's vehicle is driven at a speed of approximately 2 MPH (3 Km/h) for at least 3 seconds.
ACTION
Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using WDS release B40.7 and higher or B41.1 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the B41 CD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
