ISSUE
Some 2006-2007 Front Wheel Drive (FWD) Fusion, Milan, 2007 MKZ vehicles built on or before 8/7/2007 and 2006 Zephyr vehicles may exhibit a customer concern of a rattle/vibration noise perceived to be coming from the console area or under the vehicle. The rattle/vibration noise is most prominent during windy days where a crosswind is present and commonly occurs at approximate vehicle speeds between 50-70 MPH (80-116 Km/h).

ACTION
Follow the steps in the Service Procedure to resolve the customer concern.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-02.

2. Inspect the heat shield wings positioned in the rear portion of the exhaust shield, above the muffler. (Figure 1)

3. Verify that the two (2) wings are not touching the floor pan tunnel (Figure 2). If they are, proceed to Step 4. If not, follow the normal service diagnostic procedures, refer to WSM, Section 100-04.

4. Pull the wings down vertically to achieve a minimum clearance of 3/4" (20 mm). (Figures 3 and 4)
