Inspection and Verification

INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION

1. Verify the customer concern.

Visual Inspection Chart:

2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.
3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.

If a concern is noted for power seat horizontal movement of a memory seat system, determine if the power seat track operates correctly by carrying out the following steps:

1 Disconnect Driver Seat Module (DSM) C341b and driver seat motor C353.
2 Connect a fused jumper lead between DSM C341b pin 1, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and driver seat motor C353 pin 1, circuit 981 (RD/WH), harness side.
3 Connect a second fused jumper lead between DSM C341b pin 2, circuit 490 (RD), harness side and driver seat motor C353 pin 4, circuit 980 (YE/WH), harness side, moving the front seat to its full rearward position. Once the seat reaches its full rearward position, remove the fused jumper leads.
4 Time how long it takes the seat to make full travel by connecting a fused jumper lead between DSM C341b pin 1, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and driver seat motor C353 pin 4, circuit 980 (YE/WH), harness side.
5 Connect a second fused jumper lead between DSM C341b pin 2, circuit 490 (RD), harness side and driver seat motor C353 pin 1, circuit 981 (RD/WH), harness side, moving the front seat to its full forward position and record the time. Once the seat reaches its full forward position, remove the fused jumper leads.

6 NOTE: If a seat track motor is inoperative or the front seat track motor assembly is identified as the source of a noise, install a new front seat track motor and transmission assembly. Refer to Seat Track Motor. Service and Repair

If the travel time is greater than 35 seconds, install a new power seat track. If the travel time is less than 35 seconds, the power seat track operation is acceptable. Reconnect the power seat system and continue with the diagnostic procedure.

4. If the concern is with the power seat (non-memory seat) or climate controlled seat and the cause is not visually evident, verify the symptom and GO to Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures

5. NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.

If the concern is with the memory seat and the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).

6. NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.

If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
- check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
- check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
- refer to Information Bus (Module Communications Network), No power to the scan tool, to diagnose no communication with the scan tool.

7. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
- verify the ignition key is in the ON position.
- verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
- refer to Information Bus (Module Communications Network) to diagnose no response from the powertrain control module (PCM).

8. Carry out the network test.
- If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to Information Bus (Module Communications Network).
- If the network test passes, retrieve and record continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

9. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the DSM or the Driver Door Module (DDM). Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index Driver Seat Module (DDM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index
10. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to DSM or DDM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. For all other DTCs, refer to Body Control Systems (Multifunction Electronic Control Module). Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index Driver Seat Module (DDM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index
11. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
