Anti-Theft
NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
The perimeter alarm system is controlled by the SJB on vehicles equipped with IKT keys. On vehicles equipped with IA keys, the perimeter alarm system is controlled by the RFA module.
The vehicle can be equipped with a conventional Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) (standard) or with Intelligent Access (IA) with push button start (option). The conventional PATS vehicle uses an Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) key and the vehicle equipped with IA with push button start uses an IA key. The IA key does not use a typical key blade found on most conventional type keys, although the IA key does contain a backup mechanical key blade that can be used in the driver door lock cylinder to unlock the driver door in an emergency. This action (using the backup mechanical key blade or the IKT key in the door lock cylinder) is monitored by the Driver Door Module (DDM) and this information is sent to the SJB (with IKT key) or to the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module (with IA key) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN).
Vehicles with Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT)
The perimeter anti-theft alarm system consists of the following:
- Door ajar switches
- Door lock control switch
- Door disarm switch
- Hood switch
- Horn
- Luggage compartment lid ajar switch
- Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter (part of the IKT key)
- Keyless entry keypad
- Turn signal lamps
- SJB
The perimeter anti-theft feature is controlled by the SJB. The alarm can be armed by:
- pressing the LOCK button on the RKE transmitter (part of the IKT key).
- pressing the door lock control switch to the LOCK position with the door open, then closing the door.
- turning the mechanical key to the lock position in the driver door lock cylinder.
- pressing the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons simultaneously on the keyless entry keypad.
In the event of an unauthorized entry, the SJB activates the alarm. The alarm will continue to operate for 2 minutes and 45 seconds, unless the battery dies or the alarm is deactivated. When the alarm is activated, the SJB intermittently grounds the horn relay, causing the horn to sound in regular intervals, and intermittently powers the turn signals, causing the turn signal lamps to flash in regular intervals.
With each alarm event, the input that triggered the alarm is recorded as a PID in the SJB. Up to 7 events can be recorded and used to determine what activated the alarm. If there has been more than 7 events, only the most recent 7 events will be able to be reviewed.
The perimeter alarm can be disarmed only by:
- pressing the UNLOCK button on the RKE transmitter (part of the IKT key).
- turning the door lock cylinder to the UNLOCK position.
- using a valid, programmed (PATS or IKT) key to turn the ignition to the ON position.
- entering the correct vehicle unlock code on the keyless entry keypad.
The alarm can be deactivated (not disarmed) by pressing the panic button on the RKE transmitter (part of the IKT key). This does not disarm the alarm, but it stops the alarm from activation (horn sounding and turn signals flashing). The perimeter alarm continues to be armed.
Vehicles with Intelligent Access (IA)
The perimeter anti-theft alarm system consists of the following:
- Door ajar switches
- Door lock control switch
- Door disarm switch
- Hood switch
- Horn
- Luggage compartment lid ajar switch
- RKE transmitter (part of the IA key)
- Keyless entry keypad
- Turn signal lamps
- RFA module
The perimeter anti-theft feature is controlled by the RFA module. The alarm can be armed by:
- pressing the LOCK button on the RKE transmitter (part of the IA key).
- pressing the door lock control switch to the LOCK position with the door open, then closing the door.
- turning the mechanical key to the lock position in the driver door lock cylinder.
- pressing the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons simultaneously on the keyless entry keypad.
In the event of an unauthorized entry, the RFA module activates the alarm. When the alarm is activated, the RFA module sends a message over the MS-CAN to the SJB, instructing it to intermittently ground the horn relay, causing the horn to sound in regular intervals, and intermittently power the turn signals, causing the turn signal lamps to flash in regular intervals.
The perimeter alarm can only be disarmed by:
- pressing the UNLOCK button on the RKE transmitter (part of the IA key).
- turning the door lock cylinder to the UNLOCK position.
- using a valid, programmed IA key to turn the ignition to the ON mode.
- entering the correct vehicle unlock code on the keyless entry keypad.
- touching the keyless entry keypad and a valid, programmed IA key is within 1 m (3 ft) of either of the 2 IA antennas (used for entry only).

The Rotunda numbers are 164-R7030 for the mechanical key blade and 164-R7028 for the IA key (less the mechanical key blade). The IA key and mechanical key blade cannot be purchased together as a single unit.
