Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Parameter Reset - Intelligent Access (IA)
NOTE: If the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module was replaced, follow Steps 1-11. If the RFA module and the PCM were replaced, follow Steps 1-11. If only the PCM was replaced, follow Steps 8, 9 and 10.
NOTE: If Steps 1-7 are followed, 2 Intelligent Access (IA) keys must be present.
1. Make sure the ignition is in the OFF mode.
2. From the scan tool, enter TOOLBOX. Select BODY-SECURITY-PATS Functions and follow the on-screen instructions to ENTER SECURITY ACCESS. For additional information, refer to Anti-Theft Security Access - Intelligent Access (IA) With Intelligent Access (IA).
3. NOTE: For this step to succeed, an IA key must be in the backup transceiver slot.
From the scan tool menu select: Ignition Key Code Erase. Follow the on-screen instructions until the process has been completed and the PATS Functions screen is available again.
4. From the scan tool menu select: Program ignition key. Follow the on-screen instructions until the process has been completed and the PATS Functions screen is available again.
5. Remove the first IA key from the backup transceiver slot and verify the IA key has been programmed by pressing the lock and unlock buttons. At this time, the vehicle cannot be started due to only one IA key being programmed to the vehicle.
6. NOTE: Place the second IA key in the backup transceiver slot.
From the scan tool menu select: Program ignition key. Follow the on-screen instructions until the process has been completed and the PATS Functions screen is available again.
7. Remove the second IA key from the backup transceiver slot and verify the IA key has been programmed by pressing the lock and unlock buttons.
8. NOTE: The ignition must be in the ON mode for the parameters to be reset. The PCM cannot have it parameters reset if the ignition is in the OFF mode. The ignition must be OFF to program keys and the ignition must be ON to reset parameters.
Turn the ignition to the ON mode.
9. From the scan tool, select: Parameter Reset and follow the on-screen instructions.
10. Disconnect the scan tool.
11. The vehicle should now start with both IA keys and the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter portion of the IA key(s) should function.
12. Verify the operation of each key by placing each key inside the passenger compartment and start the vehicle with the new key(s). Make sure the rest of the keys are out of the vehicle when verifying each key operation.
13. If it is desired to program additional key(s) (only up to 4 IA keys total can be programmed into the RFA module), refer to Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys - Intelligent Access (IA) Intelligent Access (IA) for each additional key that needs to be programmed.
