ROOF OPENING PANEL - BINDING / STICKING OR
MISALIGNED ROOF OPENING PANEL GLASS-BUILT
BEFORE 3/16/2009

ISSUE
Some 2009 MKS vehicles equipped with a roof opening panel and built before 3/16/2009 may exhibit a binding, sticking or misaligned roof opening panel glass. The concern may have been caused by a misaligned air deflector which may cause damage to the roof opening panel track.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. To repair, follow the Work Shop Manual (WSM), Section 501-17 and perform any necessary repairs to the roof opening panel assembly before performing this procedure. If damage is found to the roof opening frame assembly, replace the assembly per WSM, Section 501-17.





2. If the roof opening panel frame assembly was replaced. The air deflector must be inspected. (Figure 1)





a. If there is a chamfer on the air deflector arm, transfer the air deflector to the new track.(Detail A, Figure 1)

b. If no chamfer, replace the air deflector. (Detail B, Figure 1)

The roof opening panel motor(s) must be initialized when repairs are carried out on any part of the roof opening panel system, including: whenever the roof opening panel sliding glass motor or power shade motor has been removed from the roof opening panel system, the roof opening panel glass has been removed from the roof opening panel system, the roof opening panel assembly has been removed from the vehicle, a new roof opening panel motor has been installed, a new roof opening panel glass has been installed or a new roof opening panel assembly has been installed.

3. To initialize the roof opening panel glass motor use the follow the procedure:

For vehicle with Push-Button Start, place the ignition into the accessory mode.

a. Open the driver's door.

b. Cycle the ignition On then Off and back On without starting the engine.

c. Tap (push) tilt for less then one second and release.

d. Immediately push and hold the tilt button for up to 25 seconds for the initialization process to start.

NOTE
DO NOT RELEASE THE TILT SWITCH UNTIL THE PANEL GLASS HAS GONE THROUGH THE COMPLETE OPEN AND CLOSE CYCLE AS THIS MAY TAKE UP TO 30 SECONDS.

4. To initialize the Power Shade motor use the following procedure:

For vehicle with Push-Button Start, place the ignition into the accessory mode.

a. Open the driver's door.

b. Cycle the ignition On then Off and back On.

c. Momentary pull power shade switch for less then one second and release.

d. Immediately pull and hold the power shade switch for up to 25 seconds for the initialization process to start.

NOTE
DO NOT RELEASE THE TILT SWITCH UNTIL THE PANEL GLASS HAS GONE THROUGH THE COMPLETE OPEN AND CLOSE CYCLE AS THIS MAY TAKE UP TO 20 SECONDS.
