Interior Lighting

Interior Lighting

NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

The interior lighting system consists of the following components:

- Door ajar switches (part of the latch assembly)
- Instrument panel dimmer switch
- Interior/map lamps
- Footwell lamps
- Glove box lamp
- Luggage compartment lamps
- Luggage compartment ajar switch (part of the latch assembly)
- Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module (if equipped with Intelligent Access (IA)).
- Puddle lamps
- SJB
- Vanity mirror lamps

The interior lighting system consists of 2 subsystems:

- Courtesy lamps
- Demand lamps

Courtesy Lamps (Vehicles With Intelligent Access (IA))

The courtesy lamps are controlled by the SJB. The courtesy lamp subsystem consists of the ajar switches (part of the latch assembly), interior dome lamps, footwell lamps, RFA module, instrument panel dimmer switch and the puddle lamps. The SJB supplies voltage to the courtesy lamps when the SJB receives the required input. The RFA module monitors the door ajar switches and sends the input to the SJB. The SJB then supplies voltage to the courtesy lamps. The RFA module monitors the door ajar switches.

Courtesy Lamps (Vehicles Without Intelligent Access (IA))

The courtesy lamps are controlled by the SJB. The courtesy lamp subsystem consists of the ajar switches (part of the latch assembly), interior dome lamps, footwell lamps, instrument panel dimmer switch and the puddle lamps. The SJB supplies voltage to the courtesy lamps when the SJB receives the required input. The SJB then supplies voltage to the courtesy lamps.

Demand Lamps

The demand lamps are controlled by the SJB via the battery saver relay. The demand lamps subsystem consists of the luggage compartment lamps, luggage compartment ajar switch (part of the latch assembly), all map/reading lamps, and the LH and RH vanity mirror lamps. The SJB energizes the battery saver relay to supply voltage to the demand lamps.

Interior Lighting Delay

The interior lighting delay feature provides temporary illumination of the courtesy lamps after the doors are opened and then closed. The interior lighting delay feature keeps the courtesy lamps on for a period of 25 seconds after all the doors or the liftgate is closed. If during the 25-second delay time the SJB detects that the ignition has been switched out of OFF, switched ON, or if the vehicle is locked using the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter or the keyless entry keypad, the courtesy lamp illumination is discontinued.

Illuminated Entry

The illuminated entry requests the courtesy lamps to illuminate when the ignition is OFF and either the RKE transmitter UNLOCK button is pressed, or the vehicle is unlocked using the keyless entry keypad or driver door lock cylinder. The illuminated entry requests the courtesy lamps off after 25 seconds have elapsed, the ignition is switched out of OFF, switched ON, the RKE transmitter LOCK button is pressed, or the vehicle is locked using the keyless entry keypad.

Illuminated Exit

The illuminated exit requests the courtesy lamps to illuminate for 25 seconds after all doors are closed and the ignition key is removed from the ignition lock cylinder (vehicles without IA) or engine is turned OFF (vehicles with IA). The illuminated exit deactivates when the ignition key is inserted into the ignition lock cylinder (vehicles without IA), or the ignition mode is changed from OFF, turned ON (vehicles with IA), a door, liftgate or decklid becomes ajar, or 25 seconds have elapsed.

Theater Lighting

The theater lighting option ramps-up the courtesy lamps over 0.7 second when courtesy lamp activation is requested. The theater lighting feature ramps-down the courtesy lamps over 1.7 seconds when interior lighting deactivation is requested by any feature other than the panic alarm or battery saver.
