Body - Excessive Bumper To Headlamp Gap

EXCESSIVE HEADLIGHT TO BUMPER GAP

LINCOLN:
2009 MKS

ISSUE
Some 2009 MKS vehicles may exhibit an excessive headlight to bumper cover gap.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE





The excessive bumper cover to headlamp gap may be caused by a misaligned radiator grille support. (Figure 1)

1. Inspect the vehicle for body shop repairs or front fascia damage.

a. If body shop repair or facsia damage has been found discontinue this procedure.

b. If no body shop repair or facsia damage has been is found go to Step 2.

2. Open the hood





3. Loosen the two radiator support bolts. (Figure 2)

NOTE
THE NEXT STEP OF THE PROCEDURE WILL REQUIRE AN ADDITIONAL PERSON.





4. Pull the radiator grille support forward one side at a time to reduce the gap and torque the radiator support bolts to 15 lb-ft (20 N.m). (Figure 3)

5. Close the hood.
