Pinpoint Test AD: The Chime Sounds When The Driver Door Is Ajar (No Key In Ignition And Headlamps Off)
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 13, Power Distribution for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 58, Lighting Control Module for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
When the key is inserted into the ignition lock cylinder, the key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch) closes circuits 1716 (GY/YE) and 158 (BK/PK) to the Lighting Control Module (LCM), providing a voltage signal. The voltage input signals the LCM that the key is inserted. If the LCM detects that the ignition switch is in the OFF or ACC position, the key is inserted in the ignition lock cylinder, and the driver door is ajar, the key-in-ignition warning chime sounds.
The LCM monitors the headlamp switch input and the driver door ajar switch input, sounding a chime if the driver door is open, the parking lamps are on, and the ignition switch is not in the ON position.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch)
- LCM
PINPOINT TEST AD: THE CHIME SOUNDS WHEN THE DRIVER DOOR IS AJAR (NO KEY IN IGNITION AND HEADLAMPS OFF)
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
-------------------------------------------------
AD1 CHECK THE PARKING LAMPS OPERATION
- Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position.
- Are the parking lamps illuminated?
Yes
GO to AD2.
No
REFER to Lighting and Horns. Lighting and Horns
-------------------------------------------------
AD2 CHECK CIRCUIT 158 (BK/PK) FOR VOLTAGE
- Turn the parking lamps off.
- Disconnect: LCM C2145a.
- Remove the key from the ignition lock cylinder.
- Measure the voltage between the LCM C2145a-10, circuit 158 (BK/PK), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
Yes
GO to AD3.
No
GO to AD4.
-------------------------------------------------
AD3 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH FOR CORRECT OPERATION
- Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250.
- Carry out the ignition switch component test.
- Does the ignition switch pass the component test?
Yes
REPAIR circuit 158 (BK/PK) or circuit 1716 (GY/YE) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new ignition switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
AD4 CHECK FOR CORRECT LCM OPERATION
- Disconnect all the LCM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the LCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new LCM. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
