RIGHT SIDE REAR AXLE OIL LEAKS

ISSUE
Some 2009 Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car vehicles built before 11/14/2008 may exhibit a fluid leak from the right rear axle wheel bearing oil seal.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Oil leaks from the right rear axle wheel bearing oil seal may be caused by a combination of a damaged seal and/or poor seal sur[ace finish of the axle shaft. Refer to the build dates below for repair direction.

1. Inspect the vehicle build date.

2. Vehicles built from 7/21/2008 up to and including 10/24/2008, replace both the right axle shaft and the oil seal. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 205-02.

3. Vehicles built on 10/25/2008 up to and including 11/14/2008, replace the oil seal only. Refer to WSM, Section 205-02.
