Transmission Fluid Drain And Refill
Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill
All vehicles
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.
2. NOTE: If an internal problem is suspected, drain the transmission fluid through a paper filter. A small amount of metal or friction particles may be found from normal wear. If an excessive amount of metal or friction material is present, the transaxle will need to be overhauled.
Remove the transmission fluid drain plug and allow the transmission fluid to drain.
3. Install the transmission fluid drain plug.
- Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
Vehicles equipped with a 3.7L engine
4. Remove the transmission fluid level indicator. If the transaxle was removed and disassembled, fill the transaxle with 6.2L (6.5 qt) of clean transmission fluid. If the main control cover was removed for in-vehicle repair, fill the transaxle with 4.3L (4.5 qt) of clean transmission fluid.
Vehicles equipped with a 3.5L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engine
5. Clean the area around the clamp that connects the Air Cleaner (ACL) to the ACL outlet pipe.
6. If equipped, remove the bolt cover.
7. NOTE: Do not disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector.
Remove the ACL from the ACL bracket and the ACL outlet hose.
1. Remove the wiring harness retainer from the ACL by pulling It up.
2. Remove the 2 ACL bolts.
3. Loosen the clamp.
4. Pull up on the ACL to remove it from the 2 rubber grommets and position it aside with the IAT sensor electrical connector still connected.
8. With the IAT sensor connected, rotate the ACL 90 degrees to access the transmission fluid level indicator. Install the ACL in the outlet pipe and tighten the clamp.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
All vehicles
10. Start the engine and let it run for 3 minutes. Move the range selector lever into each gear position and allow engagement for a minimum of ten seconds. Check the transmission fluid level by installing and removing the transmission fluid level indicator. When installing the transmission fluid level indicator, be sure it is seated and rotate it clockwise to the locked position. Adjust the transmission fluid level.
1. Correct transmission fluid level at normal operating temperature 82°C-93°C (180°F-200°F).
2. Low transmission fluid level.
3. High transmission fluid level.
Vehicles equipped with a 3.5L GTDI engine
11. Turn the engine off, loosen the clamp and remove the ACL assembly from the ACL outlet pipe and position it aside with the IAT sensor electrical connector connected.
12. Install the ACL.
1. Position the ACL assembly in the ACL outlet pipe and push down to install it in the 2 rubber grommets.
2. Tighten the clamp.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
3. Install the 2 ACL bolts.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
4. Install the wiring harness retainer on the ACL.
13. If equipped, install the bolt cover.
