Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Deactivation and Reactivation

Deactivation

WARNING: Always carry or place a live air bag module with the air bag and deployment door/trim cover/tear seam pointed away from the body. Do not set a live air bag module down with the deployment door/trim cover/tear seam face down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.

WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

WARNING: Never disassemble or tamper with safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors or probe the electrical connectors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the safety belt pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

WARNING: If a vehicle has been in a crash, inspect the restraints control module (RCM) and the impact sensor (if equipped) mounting areas for deformation. If damaged, restore the mounting areas to the original production configuration. A new RCM and sensors must be installed whether or not the air bags have deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury or death in a crash.

WARNING: Do not handle, move or change the original horizontal mounting position of the restraints control module (RCM) while the RCM is connected and the ignition switch is ON. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the Safety Canopy(R) and cause serious personal injury or death.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of accidental deployment, do not use any memory saver devices. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death.

NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition is ON.

NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

1. Depower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.

2. Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to Driver Air Bag Module Driver Air Bag Module.

3. Through the glove compartment opening, disconnect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.

4. From under the rear of the front passenger seat, slide and disengage the locking clip, release the tab and disconnect the passenger seat side air bag module electrical connector.

5. From under the rear of the driver seat, slide and disengage the locking clip, release the tab and disconnect the driver seat side air bag module electrical connector.

6. Remove the RH and LH upper C-pillar trim panels.

7. Disconnect the RH and LH side Safety Canopy(R) module electrical connectors.

8. Install RCM fuse 32 (10A) to the Smart Junction Box (SJB).

9. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery.

Reactivation

1. Turn ignition OFF.

2. Remove RCM fuse 32 (10A) from the SJB.

3. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.

4. Connect the RH and LH side Safety Canopy(R) module electrical connectors.

5. Install the RH and LH C-pillar upper trim panels.
- Verify the safety belt retractors operate without excessive effort or binding.

6. Connect the driver seat side air bag module electrical connector, then slide and engage the locking clip.

7. Connect the passenger seat side air bag module electrical connector, then slide and engage the locking clip.

8. Connect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.

9. Install the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to Driver Air Bag Module Driver Air Bag Module.

10. Repower and prove out the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.
