ISSUE
Some 2011 Fusion, Milan and MKZ vehicles built on or before 12/18/2010, may exhibit an exterior door handle not flush in closed position when released or handle sticking when opening the door.
ACTION
Follow the service procedure to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
This may be due to the exterior door handle plunger binding in the door handle bezel. (Figure 1)
1. Pull open the affected exterior door handle.
2. Inspect the exterior door handle internal plunger track, for any damage in the handle track area. Is any damage present? (Figure 1)
a. No - Only the exterior door handle plunger track is sticking. Proceed to Step 3. If other conditions remain, do not continue with this procedure. Refer to Workshop Manual Section 501-14 Symptom Chart pinpoint test V.
b. Yes - Replace the exterior door handle. Refer to WSM Section 501-14.
3. Use a 50/50 mix of denatured alcohol and water, clean the door handle track. (Figure 1)
4. From Rotunda Squeak and Rattle Kit, part number 164-R4900, select Krytox grease, part number 164-R4906. Apply the grease to the affected exterior door handle upper and lower portion of the door handle track areas. Make sure to apply 1 mm (1/32") of grease on the upper and lower corner portions of the door handle track (Figure 2).
5. Open and close the door three (3) times. This allows the grease to work in the door handle track.
