Pinpoint Test F: The Rear Auxiliary Audio Controls Are Inoperative/Do Not Operate Correctly

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 130, Audio System for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The Rear Audio and Temperature Control (RATC) module receives input from the rear auxiliary audio controls. It then sends these signals to the audio unit over the Audio Corporate Protocol (ACP) network.

- DTC B113A (Rear Audio Switch Stuck) - sets when a rear auxiliary audio control switch is detected active for greater than 120 seconds during normal operation, or for greater than 2 seconds during the self-test.
- DTC B113B (Rear Audio Switch Circuit Short to Ground) - sets when a short to ground is detected on the circuitry between the RATC module and the rear auxiliary audio switch.
- DTC B113C (Rear Audio Switch Circuit Short to Battery) - sets when a short to voltage is detected on the circuitry between the RATC module and the rear auxiliary audio switch.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Rear auxiliary audio controls
- RATC module
- Audio unit

PINPOINT TEST F: THE REAR AUXILIARY AUDIO CONTROLS ARE INOPERATIVE/DO NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

-------------------------------------------------
F1 REVIEW THE DTCs

- Review the RATC module DTCs.
- Is DTC B113A present?

Yes
INSTALL new rear auxiliary audio controls. REFER to Rear Auxiliary Audio Controls Service and Repair. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to F2.

-------------------------------------------------
F2 CHECK THE REAR AUXILIARY AUDIO CONTROLS (SWITCHES PRESSED)

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: RATC Module C3160b.
- Measure the resistance between the RATC module C3160b-1, circuit 595 (LB/RD), harness side and ground while pressing the rear auxiliary audio control switches as follows:

- Are the resistances within specification?

Yes
GO to F6.

No
GO to F3.

-------------------------------------------------
F3 CHECK THE REAR AUXILIARY AUDIO CONTROLS GROUND CIRCUIT FOR CONTINUITY

- Disconnect: Rear Auxiliary Audio Controls C3161.
- Measure the resistance between the rear auxiliary audio controls C3161-3, circuit 676 (PK/OG), harness side and ground.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to F4.

No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
F4 CHECK THE REAR AUXILIARY AUDIO SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the RATC module C3160b-1, circuit 595 (LB/RD), harness side and ground.

- Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to F5.

-------------------------------------------------
F5 CHECK THE REAR AUXILIARY AUDIO SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND

- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between the RATC module C3160b-1, circuit 595 (LB/RD), harness side and the rear auxiliary audio controls C3161-1, circuit 595 (LB/RD), harness side; and between the RATC module C3160b-1, circuit 595 (LB/RD), harness side and ground.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the RATC module and the rear auxiliary audio controls, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the RATC module and ground?

Yes
INSTALL new rear auxiliary audio controls. REFER to Rear Auxiliary Audio Controls Service and Repair. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
F6 CHECK THE ACP CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Disconnect: Audio Unit C290c.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the RATC module, harness side and ground as follows:

- Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to F7.

-------------------------------------------------
F7 CHECK THE ACP CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND

- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between the RATC module, harness side and the audio unit, harness side; and between the rear audio/climate control module, harness side and ground as follows:

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the RATC module and the rear auxiliary audio controls, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the RATC module and ground?

Yes
INSTALL a new RATC module. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules Rear Audio and Temperature Control (RATC) Module. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new audio unit. REFER to Audio Unit Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
