Pinpoint Test S: The Engine Idle Hour Meter Is Inoperative (If Equipped)

Normal Operation

The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the engine rpm and digital Transmission Range (TR) sensor status messages from the PCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN), and if the engine speed is greater than 400 rpm, it records the amount of time the engine runs with the transmission in PARK (P) or NEUTRAL (N).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- IC


PINPOINT TEST S: THE ENGINE IDLE HOUR METER IS INOPERATIVE (IF EQUIPPED)

S1 CHECK THE TACHOMETER OPERATION


- Start the engine and verify the tachometer operates correctly.
- Does the tachometer operate correctly?

Yes
GO to S2.

No
GO to Pinpoint Test D. Pinpoint Test D: The Tachometer Is Inoperative

S2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded PCM DTCs from the Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
- Are any PCM TR DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Automatic Transaxle/Transmission - 4R70E/4R75E Testing and Inspection to continue diagnosis of the digital TR sensor.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
