Pinpoint Test U: The Voice Guidance Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly

Normal Operation

The Audio Control Module (ACM) sends voice guidance audio signals to the audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) module through a pair of circuits. The voice-assisted route guidance is broadcast through the center instrument panel speaker.

The voice guidance volume can be changed by the customer.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Incorrect voice guidance setting

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module

- ACM (Audio Control Module)

PINPOINT TEST U : THE VOICE GUIDANCE IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

U1 CHECK THE VOICE GUIDANCE SETTING

- Adjust the voice volume to approximately 50%. Refer to the Owner's Literature.

- Set a destination and start the route using the navigation controls. Refer to the Owner's Literature.

- Observe the voice guidance.

Does the voice guidance operate correctly?

Yes
The concern was caused by an incorrect customer setting. INSTRUCT the customer in the correct use of the voice guidance feature.

No
GO to U2.

U2 CHECK THE CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER

- Carry out the speaker walkaround test.

Does the instrument panel speaker operate correctly?

Yes
GO to U3.

No
GO to Pinpoint Test C. Pinpoint Test C: Poor Quality/Distorted/No Sound From One Or More Speakers (Not All Speakers)

U3 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (Digital Signal Processing) MODULE

- Ignition OFF.

- NOTE: The connector must be backprobed in this step for accurate results.

While adjusting the voice volume setting up and down (refer to the Owner's Literature), measure the AC voltage by backprobing between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4326A-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4326A-16, circuit RMN07 (VT).

Is a fluctuating AC voltage present each time the voice volume setting is adjusted?

Yes
GO to U7.

No
GO to U4.

U4 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNALS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A.

- Ignition ON.

- Measure the voltage between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4326A-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and ground; and between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4326A-16, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side and ground.

Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to U5.

U5 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNALS FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND

- Ignition OFF.

- Measure the resistance between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4326A-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and the ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A-2, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side; and between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4326A-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and ground.

- Measure the resistance between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4326A-16, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side and the ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A-14, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side; and between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4326A-16, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module and the ACM (Audio Control Module), and greater than 10,000 ohms between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module and ground?

Yes
GO to U6.

No
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

U6 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM (Audio Control Module) OPERATION

- Connect: Audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) Module C4326A.

- Disconnect all the ACM (Audio Control Module) connectors.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins

- Connect all the ACM (Audio Control Module) connectors and make sure they seat correctly.

- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new ACM (Audio Control Module). REFER to Audio Control Module (ACM) . TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

U7 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUDIO DSP (Digital Signal Processing) MODULE OPERATION

- Disconnect all the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module connectors.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins

- Connect all the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.

- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module. REFER to Audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Module . TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
