Pinpoint Test U: The LH/RH Turn Or High Beam Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

When the multifunction switch is in the LH or RH TURN position or if the high beams are on, a message is sent to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication bus. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) upon receipt of the LH/RH turn or high beam on message, flashes the LH or RH turn signal indicator on and off or illuminates the high beam indicator.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Turn signal concern

- High beam concern

- SJB (Smart Junction Box)

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST U : THE LH/RH TURN OR HIGH BEAM INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

U1 DETERMINE THE FAULT CONDITION

- Place the headlamps in the HIGH BEAM position.

- Ignition ON.

- Observe the high beam indicator.

Does the high beam indicator illuminate?

Yes
GO to U4.

No
LEAVE the headlamps in the HIGH BEAM position. GO to U2.

U2 CHECK THE HIGH BEAM HEADLAMPS OPERATION

- Observe the high beam headlamps.

Do the high beam headlamps operate correctly?

Yes
GO to U3.

No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

U3 CARRY OUT THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

- Turn off the headlamps.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DataLogger.

- Select the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) high beam indicator (HIGH_BEAM). Command the high beam indicator on and off while observing the high beam indicator.

Does the high beam indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
GO to U6.

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

U4 CHECK THE LH OR RH TURN SIGNAL LAMPS OPERATION

- Ignition ON.

- Operate the LH or RH turn signal. Observe the exterior LH or RH turn lamps.

Do the turn signal lamps operate correctly?

Yes
GO to U5.

No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

U5 CARRY OUT THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DataLogger.

- Select the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) RH or LH turn signal indicator (RH_TURN_L) or (LH_TURN_L) active command. Command the RH or LH turn signal indicator on and off while observing the LH or RH turn signal indicator.

Does the LH or RH turn signal indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
GO to U6.

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

U6 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U0140:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AU. Pinpoint Test AU: DTC U0140:00

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes

No
INSTALL a new SJB (Smart Junction Box). TEST the system for normal operation.
