Removal

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

2. Remove the 4 retainers and the underbody shield.





3. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding Service and Repair.

4. Remove the 2 banjo bolts and the LH turbocharger coolant tubes.
- Discard the sealing washers.


5. Remove the intake manifold.

6. Remove the battery tray.

7. Remove the starter motor.

8. Detach the wiring harness pin-type retainer from the transaxle shift cable bracket.

9. Remove 3 bolts and the transaxle shift cable bracket.

10. Remove the RH cylinder head bolt and the ground wire.

11. Disconnect the wastegate control valve hose.

12. Remove the LH coolant tube bracket-to-cylinder head nut and position the coolant tubes aside.

13. Disconnect the 2 LH turbocharger coolant tubes.

14. While pulling the coolant tube out, rotate the coolant tube counterclockwise one full turn and remove.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.


Installation

1. NOTICE: Use Motorcraft(R) Specialty Green Engine Coolant or Motorcraft(R) Specialty Orange Engine Coolant. Use the same type of coolant that was originally used to fill the cooling system. Do not mix coolant types. Mixing coolant types degrades the coolant corrosion protection and may damage the engine or cooling system.

NOTICE: Motorcraft(R) Specialty Green Engine Coolant is very sensitive to light. Do NOT allow this product to be exposed to ANY LIGHT for more than a day or two. Extended light exposure causes this product to degrade.

NOTE: Apply clean engine coolant to the O-ring seals prior to installation.
Using new O-ring seal, rotate the coolant tube clockwise one full turn while installing.


2. Connect the 2 LH turbocharger coolant tubes.

3. Install the coolant tube bracket-to-cylinder head nut.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).


4. Connect the wastegate control valve hose.

5. Install the ground wire and the RH cylinder head bolt.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).


6. Install the transaxle shift cable bracket and the 3 bolts.
- Tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).


7. Attach the wiring harness pin-type retainer to the transaxle shift cable bracket.

8. Install the starter motor.

9. Install the battery tray.

10. Install the intake manifold.

11. Using 2 new sealing washers, install the 2 LH turbocharger coolant tubes and the banjo bolts.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).


12. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding Service and Repair.

13. Install the underbody shield and the 4 retainers.
