Anti-Theft Security Access
NOTE: The anti-theft security access procedure is used to obtain Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) security access. PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) security access must be granted to erase ignition keycodes, program new ignition keycodes, reset the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module or PCM parameters and enable/disable the spare key programming switch (RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module PID Spare_Key_St). The anti-theft security access procedure invokes a 10-minute time delay prior to granting security access during which the scan tool must remain connected to the vehicle. Once security access is granted, a security access command menu is displayed which offers various command options.
NOTE: Once security access has been granted, multiple security access commands should be executed (if necessary) prior to exiting the command menu. This avoids an additional security access procedure and the associated 10-minute time delay.
NOTE: If anti-theft security access has been entered to reset parameters, make sure to cycle the ignition several times, waiting in each ignition mode for a minimum of 3 seconds. The vehicle may not start until the ignition has been cycled to the ON mode a minimum of 3 times. This allows the modules to send and receive the IDs after the parameter resets have occurred.
NOTE: The ignition must be OFF in order to program keys and must be ON in order to reset parameters. With no keys (or one key) programmed to the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module, the ignition cannot transition to the ON mode. If 2 or more keys are programmed to the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module, the ignition can transition to the ON mode, and the parameters can be reset at that time. With the ignition in the OFF mode, the PCM cannot communicate and cannot have its parameters reset.
NOTE: While programmed keys are not required for this procedure, a scan tool session must be established in order to use Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) key programming. Use an existing programmed Intelligent Access (IA) key to establish a scan tool session. If no programmed keys are available, refer to Inspection and Verification in Information Bus to establish a scan tool session without PCM power (or in ignition OFF). Inspection and Verification
1. From the scan tool, enter TOOLBOX. Select BODY- SECURITY- PATS Functions and follow the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) on-screen instructions to ENTER SECURITY ACCESS. This procedure takes approximately 10 minutes to carry out, during which time the scan tool must be connected to the vehicle.
2. After the 10-minute security access procedure is completed, a new menu is displayed with command options. Select only those functions required before exiting out of this menu. Do not select more functions than the procedure calls for. Once exited out of this menu, the security access procedure must be repeated again to carry out additional commands.
