The power lock/unlock feature requests all of the vehicle doors locked or unlocked upon a customer request from either interior door lock control switch in the vehicle. The power door locking system functions independently of ignition status or vehicle speed.

Central Locking/Unlocking

The central locking/unlocking feature allows all of the doors to be locked or unlocked from a key in the driver door lock cylinder. To unlock the driver door with stepped unlock enabled, turn the key counterclockwise. To unlock all the doors with stepped unlock enabled, turn the key a second time to unlock all the doors. To unlock all the doors with stepped unlock disabled, turn the key counterclockwise one time. Refer to Stepped Unlock Programming for programming information.

To lock all of the doors, turn the key clockwise.

Autolock

The autolock feature locks all the doors when the following conditions are met:

- All the doors are closed

- The ignition switch is in the RUN position

- The vehicle is shifted into any gear, putting the vehicle in motion

- The vehicle attains a speed greater than 20 km/h (12 mph)

The autolock feature repeats when:

- any door is opened then closed with the ignition in the RUN mode.

- the vehicle speed is 15 km/h (9 mph) or slower.

- the vehicle then attains a speed greater than 20 km/h (12 mph). Refer to Autolock and Auto-Unlock Programming for programming information.

Auto-Unlock

NOTE: The doors will not auto-unlock if the vehicle has been electronically locked before the driver door is opened.

The auto-unlock feature unlocks all the doors when the following conditions are met:

- The ignition is in the RUN mode

- All the doors are closed

- The vehicle has been in motion at a speed greater than 20 km/h (12 mph)

- The vehicle then comes to a stop

- The ignition is switched to the OFF or ACC mode

- The driver door is opened within 10 minutes of the ignition being switched to the OFF, LOCK or ACC mode. Refer to Autolock and Auto-Unlock Programming for programming information.

Smart Unlock

The smart unlock feature prevents the doors from electronically locking when an IA (Intelligent Access) key is left inside the vehicle. When the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module receives a lock command from a door lock control switch, and an IA (Intelligent Access) key is inside the vehicle with one of the doors open, the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module commands all the doors to unlock and the horn will chirp. To override the smart unlock feature and intentionally lock a key in the vehicle, close all of the doors and lock the vehicle using the keyless entry keypad or press the lock button on another IA (Intelligent Access) key, or lock the doors manually with the lock rod before closing the door.

Luggage Compartment Smart Unlock Feature

The luggage compartment smart unlock feature prevents the luggage compartment from latching when an IA (Intelligent Access) key is detected inside the luggage compartment. When the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module detects the luggage compartment lid is closed with the perimeter alarm in an armed state, it will search the luggage compartment using the low frequency antenna (located underneath the rear seat) for an IA (Intelligent Access) key. If an IA (Intelligent Access) key is detected, the luggage compartment lid will release and the horn will chirp. To override the luggage compartment smart unlock and intentionally latch the luggage compartment lid, disarm the perimeter alarm by pressing unlock on an IA (Intelligent Access) key, and then close the luggage compartment lid with the IA (Intelligent Access) key inside. Once the luggage compartment lid is closed, rearm the perimeter alarm by touching 7/8 and 9/0 on the keyless entry keypad.

Driver Door Intelligent Access (IA) Feature

The driver door IA (Intelligent Access) feature allows the driver door to be unlocked without having to use the door lock cylinder or the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter feature on the IA (Intelligent Access) key. With a programmed IA (Intelligent Access) key within 1 m (3 ft) outside the driver door, touch any button on the keyless entry keypad, and the driver door unlocks with stepped unlock enabled. If stepped unlock is disabled all the doors will unlock when using the driver door IA (Intelligent Access) feature. Refer to Stepped Unlock Programming for programming information.

Luggage Compartment Intelligent Access (IA) Feature

The luggage compartment IA (Intelligent Access) feature allows the luggage compartment lid to be released without having to use the interior luggage compartment lid release switch or the keyless entry keypad. With a programmed IA (Intelligent Access) key within 1 m (3 ft) outside the luggage compartment lid, press the luggage compartment lid release button on the luggage compartment lid, and the luggage compartment lid releases.

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)

The RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) system uses an IA (Intelligent Access) key. The IA (Intelligent Access) key incorporates both the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) functions and the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter functions in a single device.

The RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter is programmed automatically during IA (Intelligent Access) key programming. During IA (Intelligent Access) key programming, the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module obtains the TIC (Transmitter Identification Code) from the IA (Intelligent Access) key.

The RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module accepts programming of up to 4 IA (Intelligent Access) keys. Refer to Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys - Intelligent Access (IA) or Key Programming Using Diagnostic Equipment - Intelligent Access (IA) in Antitheft and Alarm Systems for key programming information.

The IA (Intelligent Access) key initiates the following electronic system functions:

- Unlocks the LH front door

- Unlocks all doors

- Locks all doors

- Releases the luggage compartment lid

- Activates/deactivates the panic alarm

- Commands the interior lamps on (when unlocking) and off (when locking)

- Provides a long flash of the turn signals when UNLOCK is pressed

- Sounds the horn once when LOCK is pressed twice within 3 seconds, and the doors are closed

- Sounds the horn twice when LOCK is pressed twice within 3 seconds, and any door is ajar

The RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter in the IA (Intelligent Access) key has a normal operating range of 10 m (33 ft).

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Lock/Unlock Control - Unlock

The RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) feature provides lock/unlock functions independently of ignition mode, vehicle speed, or transmission position. The RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) feature provides a stepped (if enabled) process for unlocking the doors. Upon receipt of the first request for unlocking the doors, the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) control feature unlocks the driver door only and provides a long flash of the turn signals. If another unlock request is received within 3 seconds of the first, the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) feature unlocks all the doors. This feature can be changed to 1-step unlock, so that all the doors unlock on the first press of the unlock button. Refer to Stepped Unlock Programming for programming information.

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Lock/Unlock Control - Lock

The RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) feature requests that all the doors be locked when the LOCK button is pressed. On any press of the LOCK button with all doors closed, the doors lock and the turn signals flash one time. If any door or luggage compartment lid is ajar, no flash occurs and the horn will chirp twice. As soon as the last door or luggage compartment lid is closed, the turn signals flash. If 2 presses of the LOCK button are received within 3 seconds, the horn chirps once, and the turn signals flash twice to indicate that all the doors are closed and locked. If any door or luggage compartment lid is ajar when the second lock request is received within 3 seconds of the first, the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter feature requests the horn chirp twice without flashing the turn signals to indicate it locked all the doors but one or more doors are ajar. When the ignition is in the RUN or START mode, the turn signal flashes and horn chirp confirmations do not occur.

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Luggage Compartment

The RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) feature provides luggage compartment lid release function independently of ignition status. To release the luggage compartment lid, press the luggage compartment lid release button twice within 3 seconds. The vehicle speed must be less than 5 km/h (3 mph) for this function to work.

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Memory Seat Feature

The RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) feature provides a memory seat feature. Up to 2 RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitters can be associated with memory settings. When the unlock button on an RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter is pressed, the driver seat, adjustable steering column, and exterior mirrors move to the desired memory position (the seat, steering column, and mirror position corresponds to the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter being used). This feature can be enabled/disabled. Refer to Remote Memory Activation and Remote Memory Deactivation for programming information.

Panic Alarm

The panic alarm feature provides audible and visual alarms which are evident from the exterior of the vehicle. The panic alarm feature requests that the turn signals are flashed and the horn sounds until deactivation. The flashing of the outputs occurs simultaneously. Activation of the panic alarm is accomplished by pressing the panic button on an RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter whenever the ignition is in the OFF mode. At all other times, this feature is disabled. Deactivation of an active panic alarm is accomplished by any of the following actions:

- A second press of the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter panic button

- The ignition is switched out of the OFF mode

- A period of 2 minutes and 45 seconds has elapsed since the initial activation

Keyless Entry Keypad

The keypad, located on the exterior of the driver door, provides a method for customers to access their vehicle. The keypad feature:

- Locks all doors

- Unlocks the driver door

- Unlocks all doors

- Programs/erases the customer keypad code

- Enables/disables auto-unlocking

- Enables/disables autolocking

- Recalls memory seat/steering column/power mirror positions

- Releases the luggage compartment lid

- Enables the driver door IA (Intelligent Access)

The keypad feature operates independently of ignition mode, vehicle speed, or transmission position. When a keypad button is touched, the keypad buttons illuminate to provide better visibility. If the lock all doors command is entered or 5 seconds have elapsed since the last button press, the illumination is turned off. The keypad is also illuminated any time that the courtesy lighting is on.

The keypad is designed to only work when touched with a finger. The keyless entry keypad may not work when gloves are worn.

Each vehicle is programmed with a 5-digit permanent entry code. This code is provided to the customer through a wallet card in the Owner's Literature. In addition, this code is available using a scan tool and is also printed on the Smart Junction Box (SJB) label. When entering codes, each digit must be entered within 5 seconds of the previous button press. The RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module accepts the programming of 3 personal entry codes. Refer to Keyless Entry Keypad Code Programming for programming information.

Locking the Doors with the Keyless Entry Keypad System

It is not necessary to enter the factory set or personal code prior to locking all doors. To lock all doors, touch and hold the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons at the same time for approximately 1 second.

Unlocking the Doors with the Keyless Entry Keypad System

To unlock the driver door (if stepped unlock is disabled), enter either the factory set code or a personal code; each digit must be pressed within 5 seconds of the prior digit. The interior lamps illuminate.

To unlock all doors, enter either the factory set code or a personal code (driver door unlocks) and touch the 3/4 button within 5 seconds. This feature can be changed to 1-step unlock, so that all the doors unlock on receipt of the factory set or personal code. Refer to Stepped Unlock Programming for programming information.

To open the luggage compartment, enter the factory set code or a personal code (driver door unlocks) and touch the 5/6 button within 5 seconds.

Keyless Entry Keypad Memory Seat Feature

The keypad provides a memory seat feature. The feature is associated with personal codes and positions the driver seat, adjustable steering column, and exterior mirrors to the Driver 1 or Driver 2 memory setting. Refer to Keyless Entry Keypad Code Programming for programming information.

Anti-Scan Feature

To provide added security, the keypad is disabled for 1 minute after 35 button presses without a valid entry code being entered. The keypad flashes during this 1-minute mode with all functionality disabled except for 7/8 and 9/0 still being allowed to lock the vehicle.

Anti-scan is turned off after 1 minute of keypad inactivity.
