Pinpoint Test Q: The Luggage Compartment Smart Unlock Does Not Operate Correctly
Normal Operation
The luggage compartment smart unlock feature prevents the luggage compartment from latching when an Intelligent Access (IA) key is detected inside the luggage compartment. When the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module detects the luggage compartment lid is closed with the perimeter alarm in an armed state, it will search the luggage compartment using the low frequency antenna located underneath the rear seat for an IA (Intelligent Access) key. If an IA (Intelligent Access) key is inside the luggage compartment the signal from the low frequency antenna will activate the IA (Intelligent Access) key, and it will send a signal back to the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module through the Remote Functions Receiver (RFR) module. If an IA (Intelligent Access) key is detected, the luggage compartment lid will release and the horn will chirp. To override the luggage compartment smart unlock and intentionally latch the luggage compartment lid, disarm the perimeter alarm by pressing unlock on an IA (Intelligent Access) key, and then close the luggage compartment lid with the IA (Intelligent Access) key inside. Once the luggage compartment lid is closed, rearm the perimeter alarm by pressing 7/8 and 9/0 on the keyless entry keypad.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Luggage compartment lid ajar switch input
- IA (Intelligent Access) key
- RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module
PINPOINT TEST Q : THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT SMART UNLOCK DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
Q1 CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT AJAR MESSAGE IN THE MESSAGE CENTER
- Observe the message center while opening and closing the luggage compartment lid.
Does the ajar message in the message center operate correctly?
Yes
GO to Q2.
No
REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
Q2 CHECK THE IA (Intelligent Access) KEY
- Place the IA (Intelligent Access) key inside the luggage compartment and start the engine.
Does the engine start?
Yes
GO to Q3.
No
REFER to Antitheft and Alarm Systems.
Q3 CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA (Remote Function Actuator) MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect all the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
