Interior Lighting
Interior Lighting
NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
The interior lighting system consists of the following components:
- Door ajar switches (part of the latch assembly)
- Instrument panel dimmer switch
- Interior/map lamps
- Footwell lamps
- Glove compartment lamp
- Luggage compartment lamps
- Luggage compartment ajar switch (part of the latch assembly)
- Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module
- Puddle lamps
- Scuff plate lamps
- SJB (Smart Junction Box)
- Vanity mirror lamps
- Ambient lighting switch
- Interior Lighting Control Module (ILCM)
The interior lighting system can consist of 3 subsystems:
- Courtesy lamps
- Demand lamps
- Ambient lighting (if equipped)
Courtesy Lamps
The courtesy lamps are controlled by the SJB (Smart Junction Box). The courtesy lamp subsystem consists of the door ajar switches (part of the latch assembly), interior dome lamps, footwell lamps, RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module (if equipped with Intelligent Access (IA)), instrument panel dimmer switch and the puddle lamps.
Demand Lamps
The demand lamps are controlled by the SJB (Smart Junction Box) via the battery saver relay. The demand lamps subsystem consists of the luggage compartment lamps, luggage compartment ajar switch (part of the latch assembly), all map/reading lamps, and the LH and RH vanity mirror lamps. The SJB (Smart Junction Box) energizes the battery saver relay to supply voltage to the demand lamps.
Ambient Lighting
The ambient lighting feature provides illumination to the center console cup holders, the storage bin and the front and rear footwells for illuminated entry or when the ignition switch is in the RUN position with the parking lamps on.
There are 4 different color LEDs (red, blue, green and white) housed within each LED assembly. By illuminating various color combinations, the LEDs are able to produce 7 different colors of ambient light.
With each press of the ambient lighting select switch, the ILCM (Interior Lighting Control Module) cycles through a different color variation or turns the ambient lighting feature off. With each press of the ambient lighting dimmer switch, the ILCM (Interior Lighting Control Module) changes the brightness setting of the ambient lighting. The module retains the last color setting and brightness between uses.
When the illuminated entry feature is active, the ambient lighting defaults to a pre-set color (white) and brightness setting. When all the doors are closed and the illuminated entry is no longer active, the ambient lighting returns to the last color and brightness setting that was set by the operator.
The color and brightness settings can only be changed when the ignition switch is in the RUN position, the parking lamps are on and all the doors are closed.
Interior Lighting Delay
The interior lighting delay feature provides temporary illumination of the dimmable backlighting, the parking lamps and the courtesy lamps after the doors are opened and then closed. The interior lighting delay feature keeps the lamps on for a period of 25 seconds after all the doors or the liftgate is closed. If during the 25-second delay time the SJB (Smart Junction Box) detects that the ignition has been switched out of OFF, switched ON, or if the vehicle is locked using the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter or the keyless entry keypad, the lamp illumination is discontinued.
Illuminated Entry
The illuminated entry requests the dimmable backlighting, the parking lamps and the courtesy lamps, the dimmable backlighting and the ambient lighting (if equipped) to illuminate when the ignition is OFF and either the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter UNLOCK button is pressed, or the vehicle is unlocked using the keyless entry keypad or driver door lock cylinder. The illuminated entry requests the lamps off after 25 seconds have elapsed, the ignition is switched out of OFF, switched ON, the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter LOCK button is pressed, or the vehicle is locked using the keyless entry keypad.
Illuminated Exit
The illuminated exit requests the dimmable backlighting, the parking lamps and the courtesy lamps (except the puddle lamps) to illuminate for 25 seconds after all doors are closed and the ignition key is removed from the ignition lock cylinder (vehicles without IA (Intelligent Access)) or engine is turned OFF (vehicles with IA (Intelligent Access)). The illuminated exit deactivates when the ignition key is inserted into the ignition lock cylinder (vehicles without IA (Intelligent Access)), or the ignition mode is changed from OFF, turned ON (vehicles with IA (Intelligent Access)), a door, liftgate or decklid becomes ajar, or 25 seconds have elapsed.
Theater Lighting
The theater lighting option ramps-up the courtesy lamps over 0.7 second when courtesy lamp activation is requested. The theater lighting feature ramps-down the courtesy lamps over 1.7 seconds when interior lighting deactivation is requested by any feature other than the panic alarm or battery saver.
Battery Saver
NOTE: Time out is 1 minute if the vehicle has less than 80 km (50 miles).
The SJB (Smart Junction Box) provides automatic shut-off of the demand lamps and courtesy lamps after a time-out period in order to save battery voltage. A timer in the SJB (Smart Junction Box) is started when the ignition is turned OFF, and all the doors and the luggage compartment lid are closed. When the 10-minute time-out period has elapsed, the voltage is automatically shut off to the lamps by the SJB (Smart Junction Box). While the SJB (Smart Junction Box) has voltage disabled, if the ignition is turned to any position other than OFF, any door, or the liftgate becomes ajar, or the UNLOCK button of the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is pressed, a valid keyless entry keypad code is entered, an unlock request from the door lock cylinder is received, or the dome lamp switch is turned on, the SJB (Smart Junction Box) restores voltage and starts the timer again.
