Intake Air Distribution and Filtering
Intake Air Distribution and Filtering
3.7L
The air intake system consists of the:
- Air Cleaner (ACL) assembly.
- ACL (Air Cleaner) outlet pipe.
- ACL (Air Cleaner) element.
- Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
The air intake system:
- cleans intake air with a replaceable, dry-type ACL (Air Cleaner) element.
- measures airflow and air temperature with the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor.
The engine ACL (Air Cleaner) contains an ACL (Air Cleaner) element made of treated, pleated paper. A new ACL (Air Cleaner) element must be installed periodically as scheduled. Engine performance and fuel economy are adversely affected when maximum restriction of the ACL (Air Cleaner) element is reached.
3.5L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI)
The air intake system consists of the:
- Air Cleaner (ACL) assembly.
- ACL (Air Cleaner) element.
- ACL (Air Cleaner) outlet pipe.
- Charge Air Cooler (CAC).
- CAC (Charge Air Cooler) pipes and tubes.
- Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor.
- turbocharger intake pipe.
- turbocharger intake tubes.
The air intake system:
- cleans intake air with a replaceable, dry-type ACL (Air Cleaner) element.
- measures manifold vacuum with a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor and converts it to an electronic signal. This provides the PCM information on the engine load.
The CAC (Charge Air Cooler) subsystem cools and increases the density of the compressed turbocharged air.
