Windows and Glass: Description and Operation

Glass, Frames and Mechanisms

NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) may also be identified as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

The glass, frames and mechanisms consist of the following:

- Accessory delay relay

- Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) (if equipped with navigation system)

- Front door glass run retainer

- Front door glass top run

- Front door window glass

- Front door window regulator and motor

- HVAC module

- Rear door fixed glass and top run

- Rear door window glass (tempered)

- Rear door window regulator and motor

- Rear window glass

- Rear window defrost grid

- Rear window defrost relay

- Window control switches

- SJB (Smart Junction Box)

- Windshield glass

The glass, frames and mechanisms include the following:

- Standard plastic and laminate windshield glass

- Windshield glass which is bonded to the opening flange with a urethane adhesive

- Standard power windows which include one-touch up, one-touch down (all 4 doors) and lock-out feature.

The window regulator control switch:

- is located on each door trim panel.

- may be used to raise or lower all windows from the left front window control switch, or the individual side window from the corresponding individual door switch.

- can lock out passenger front and rear window control switches when the lock-out switch on the left front window control switch is turned on.

- can automatically lower the door window when the window control switch is momentarily pressed into the second detent position and released.

- can automatically raise the door window when the window control switch is momentarily pulled to the second detent position and released.

The accessory delay relay, located in the SJB (Smart Junction Box), provides power for the operation of the power windows and the roof opening panel (if equipped). The accessory delay feature is active when the ignition switch is in the RUN or the ACC position, or when the ignition switch is changed from RUN or ACC to the OFF/LOCK position and the LF and RF doors are closed.

Global Open/Close (if equipped)

The SJB (Smart Junction Box) sends a signal on the global open/close circuit to both front door and rear door window motors and the roof opening panel motor, to open or close the windows based on a signal received from the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. If the accessory delay relay is active, the global open/close feature will not operate.

Rear Window Defrost

The HVAC module controls the state of the rear window defrost relay. When the rear window defrost switch (integral to the HVAC module or FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module), if equipped with navigation system) is pressed, the HVAC module will activate the rear window defrost relay. When the rear window defrost relay is active, both the rear window defrost grid and heated mirror elements will be energized.
