Principles of Operation
NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
Fusion
When the brake pedal is applied, voltage is routed to the SJB (Smart Junction Box) and the high mounted stoplamp. The SJB (Smart Junction Box) then supplies voltage to the rear stoplamps. The rear stoplamps are combination stop/turn lamps. The turn and hazard lamp functions override the rear stoplamp function.
NOTE: The Fusion high mounted stoplamp has 9 LEDs mounted in the center third portion of the assembly. The outer left and right portions of the high mounted stoplamp are not illuminated. The high mounted stoplamp is not designed to illuminate the full width of the lens.
MKZ
When the brake pedal is applied, voltage is routed to the high mounted stoplamp, the rear stoplamps and the SJB (Smart Junction Box).
