Pinpoint Test I: An Individual Demand Lamp Is Inoperative

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 89, Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information. [1][2]Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The Smart Junction Box (SJB) supplies voltage to the demand lamps. The demand lamps are grounded through one circuit. The glove compartment lamp (MKZ only) is case grounded.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Demand lamp

PINPOINT TEST I : AN INDIVIDUAL DEMAND LAMP IS INOPERATIVE

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

I1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE DEMAND LAMP

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: Suspect Demand Lamp.

- Ignition ON.

- Measure the voltage between the suspect demand lamp, harness side and ground as follows:

Location Connector-Pin Circuit RH vanity mirror lamp C906-1 CLN09 (YE/GN) LH vanity mirror lamp C907-1 CLN09 (YE/GN) Front C930-2 CLN09 (YE/GN) Front (MKZ only) C9035-2 CLN09 (YE/GN) Rear (with moonroof) C921-3 CLN09 (YE/GN) Rear (without moonroof) C901-3 CLN09 (YE/GN) Glove compartment lamp C254-1 CLN09 (YE/GN)

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to I2.

No
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

I2 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE DEMAND LAMP USING THE CONNECTOR GROUND

- Measure the voltage between the inoperative demand lamp, harness side and ground as follows:

Inoperative Lamp Connector-Pin/ Circuit Connector-Pin/ Circuit LH vanity mirror lamp C907-1 CLN09 (YE/GN) C907-2 GD139 (BK/YE) RH vanity mirror lamp C906-1 CLN09 (YE/GN) C906-2 GD139 (BK/YE) Front C930-2 CLN09 (YE/GN) C930-1 GD139 (BK/YE) Front (MKZ only) C9035-2 CLN09 (YE/GN) C9035-6 GD139 (BK/YE) Rear (with moonroof) C921-3 CLN09 (YE/GN) C921-2 GD139 (BK/YE) Rear (without moonroof) C901-3 CLN09 (YE/GN) C901-2 GD139 (BK/YE)

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
INSTALL a new demand lamp for the suspect lamp. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
