This bulletin applies to vehicles with a VIN of 4F2CU44X*MUM*****produced through October 28, 1990

This bulletin does not apply to vehicles with a VIN of 4F2CU44X*MUM***** and produced after October 28, 1990

NOTE:
The date of production is stamped (in ink) on left or right side of radiator support. Figure 1.

DESCRIPTION

Some Navajo vehicles may drift or pull to the right. This may be caused by insufficient side-to-side caster angles. To correct this, change caster angle(s) so the right side is 0.5" higher than the left side.

Vehicles built after October 28, 1990 (see AFFECTED VINS) use revised Radius Arms (ZZL0 34 223), which increase the side-to-side caster angle (right side higher than left) and eliminate pulling.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1. Inspect vehicle for causes of drift or pull. Refer to Section R of the applicable Workshop Manual.

2. Check the ride height of the vehicle. If necessary, adjust it to specification. See Section R of the applicable Workshop Manual.

3. Check the wheelbase. Length of wheel base is 2,593 mm (102.1 in.).

4. Check and record the camber, caster and toe values.

5. Determine the amount of change required to set the right side caster angle 0.5~ higher than the left side caster angle. See Section R of the applicable Workshop Manual.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:
Perform the following steps (in order) until the alignment is within specification, and the right side caster angle is 0.5~ higher than the left side.

1. Install the 1.5~ Camber/Caster Adjuster (ZZ14 34 540) in the left side axle. See Section R of the applicable Workshop Manual.

2. Position the slot opening of the adjuster outboard. Rotate the adjuster 45~ counterclockwise. Figure 2.

3. Make sure alignment is within specification with right side caster angle 0.5~ higher than the left side. Reset total toe to 1/32 in. toe-in.

The following steps will increase right side caster 0.7~.

NOTE:
This will cause the LEFT SIDE camber angle to change about 0.2-0.3~ positive to be consistent with the right side specification requirement of 0.5~ higher than the left side.

1. Install the 1/4-Inch Washer (9X38 57 9502) under the LEFT FRONT COIL spring seat. See Section R of the applicable Workshop Manual. Figure 3.

2. Loosen the adjuster pinch bolt. Rotate the RIGHT SIDE camber/caster adjuster 45~ clockwise from its factory installed position. Figure 4.

3. Make sure alignment is within specification, with right side caster angle 0.5~ higher than the left side. Reset total toe to 1/32 in. toe-in.

To Change Caster With Revised Radius Arm(s):

NOTE:
Installing two (2) Radius Arms (ZZL0 34 223) will increase the difference in side-to-side caster angles by 0.4~. When installed on the right side, it will increase the caster angle 0.2~. When installed on the left side, it will decrease the caster angle 0.2~.

1. As required, install one (1) or both radius arms. See Section R of the applicable Workshop Manual.

2. If more or less caster angle is required, rotate axle within the limits of the mounting holes. Then tighten bolts.

3. Make sure alignment is within specification with the right side caster angle 0.5~ higher than the left side. Reset total toe to 1/32 in. toe-in.
