Vehicle Speed Sensor: Description and Operation

Vehicle Speed Sensor:

^ The Vehicle Speed Sensor, located at the speedometer cable attachment to the transmission (transfer case on 4X4 vehicles), is a magnetic pulse generator that produces 16 AC signals per revolution.
^ The ECA computer interprets this input as a road speed signal and utilizes it in calculations for torque converter lock-up, coolant fan control, fuel mixture and ignition timing.
^ The signal is also used by the cruise control system on vehicles so equipped.
