F1 - Leak
F1 - LEAK BETWEEN THE OIL PAN AND THE CYLINDER BLOCK OR BETWEEN THE OIL PAN AND THE REAR MAIN CAP. REFER TO FLOW CHART, D3 / F1.1. Remove the oil pan from the engine and remove the wedge seal. Do not remove the rear main cap.
NOTE:
DO NOT remove the main cap to remove the wedge seal. If main cap removal is necessary perform procedure F2.
2. If the engine has a new style oil pan without the groove, clean all the oil and old sealer from the oil pan. Thoroughly wash oil pan.
3. Clean all the old sealer from the oil pan sealing area on the cylinder block and the rear main cap. Special care should be taken to scrape / scratch all the old sealer from the exposed areas of the rear main cap and cylinder block. This is a critical sealing area
NOTE:
To avoid cylinder block contamination. Always take necessary precautions to prevent old sealer or gasket material from falling into the cylinder block.
4. After cleaning, wipe all oil from the affected surfaces with a cleaner that leaves no residue or film when dry. Recommended cleaner is denatured alcohol. Areas include bell housing, rear of cylinder block and rear engine plate.
NOTE:
Never use carburetor cleaner or other petroleum products. A Hydrocarbon residue is left that resists the adhesive action of sealants. Avoid the use of soap and water as cleaners. Soap can leave a film residue which resists the adhesive action of sealants.
5. Place a bead of Loctite 598 or equivalent silicone sealer at the corner of the radius areas at the front and rear of the oil pan and the wedge seal cavity.
6. Place a bead of Loctite 598 or equivalent silicone sealer on the block at the corners of the front and rear radius areas.
NOTE:
Use only oil pan gasket (ZZM3 10431) with oil pan (ZZM3 10 400).
7. Place a new oil pan gasket (ZZM3 10 431) on the engine block.
8. Place a bead of Loctite 598 or equivalent silicone sealer
^ In the corners where the rear cap meets the cylinder block
^ At the corner areas of the radius area on the front cover
^ At the front cover where it meets the block
^ At the cylinder block joint
9. Set the oil pan in place and snug the four (4) oil pan nuts.
10. Align the rear face of the oil pan with the rear face of the cylinder block.
NOTE:
If the rear face of the oil pan can not be aligned with the rear face of the cylinder block within 010 in., the appropriate shims must be installed.
11. Install the remaining oil pan bolts and tighten to 7 - 10 Nm (5 - 7 ft. lbs).
