Subject
SPEEDOMETER INDICATES HIGH SPEED AT LOW AMBIENT TEMPERATURE
DESCRIPTION
Some mechanical speedometers may indicate a speed higher than the actual vehicle speed when the ambient temperature is below 20~F (-7~C). This occurs because of insufficient lubricant at these lower temperatures. As the vehicle warms up, the speedometer will indicate the correct speed.
INSPECTION & REPAIR PROCEDURE
When the above condition is observed, the speedometer head should be replaced with a corrected, certified unit. A corrected unit is identified by an orange dot on the box. Refer to the Workshop Manual, Section T-03, for removal and installation procedures.
