Subject
LACK OF HEAT TO FLOOR AREA/EXCESSIVE AIR BLEED TO DEFROSTER

DESCRIPTION

A lack of heat to the floor area when the mode switch is in the "FLOOR" position may be caused by excessive air bleed to the defroster. This is caused by the floor/defroster door. This condition is most noticeable after the vehicle has reached normal operating temperature.

INSPECTION & REPAIR PROCEDURE

If the above condition is noticed, perform the following repair procedure to replace the foam covered floor/defrost door.

1. Remove the heater unit from the vehicle. (Refer to Section U-03 of the Workshop Manual for details).

2. Disconnect the floor/defrost door linkage from the black arm of the function cam located on top of the heater unit assembly. Figure 1.

3. Using a flat blade screwdriver, disengage the door pivot pins from the side of the heater unit air duct and lift the door out of the unit.

4. Position the new foam covered floor/defrost door in the heater unit air duct.

5. Snap the pivot pins into the slots provided.

6. Make sure that the notched section of the foam covered floor/defrost door is above the lower case opening to the floor duct. This will assure that the door will open and close properly.

7. Connect the floor/defrost door linkage to the function cam.

8. Use silicone spray to lubricate both door pivots, both ends of the door linkage, heater unit air duct walls, and die foam edges of the door.

9. Reinstall the heater unit assembly into the vehicle. (Refer to Section U-03 of the Workshop Manual for details).
