Subject
FRONT BRAKE DRAG
DESCRIPTION
The front brakes on some 1991 and 1992 Navajos may drag after being applied. This condition could be caused by corroded brake caliper slide pins. Corrosion of these pins will not allow the brake caliper assembly to move freely.
INSPECTION & REPAIR PROCEDURE
If the above condition occurs, the caliper slide pins should be replaced using the following procedure.
1. Remove the caliper and pins. Refer to the Workshop Manual, Section P-02 for details.
NOTE:
If the brake pads are damaged or worn, they should be replaced.
2. Clean the upper and lower knuckle pin grooves, upper and lower knuckle inner pad grooves, and the upper and lower caliper pin grooves with a wire brush or a portable wire wheel.
WARNING:
USE SAFETY GLASSES AND AN AIR RESPIRATOR WHEN CLEANING THE GROOVES.
3. Apply a light coat of "Anti-Seize" or an equivalent lubricant to the upper and lower knuckle inner pad grooves and upper and lower caliper pin grooves.
CAUTION:
THE LUBRICANT SHOULD NOT BE USED ON ROTORS, LININGS, OR CALIPER PISTON BOOTS.
4. Reassemble the caliper, using new caliper slide pins (Part No. ZZLO 33 694).
NOTE:
Normal brake maintenance, as listed in the Owner's Manual, should be performed every 15,000 miles.
