Subject:
ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP INTERFERENCE IN RADIO

DESCRIPTION

A whining or buzzing sound heard on the vehicle's AM/FM radio may be caused by the fuel pump.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

If the above symptom is encountered, an electronic noise RFI filter should be installed on the fuel pump inside the fuel tank. For removal and installation instructions of the electric fuel pump, see the Navajo Workshop Manual, Section F-03.

Installation procedure for the RFI filter is as follows:

1. Remove the fuel pump sender assembly from the fuel tank.

2. Remove the negative and positive connectors from the fuel pump.

3. Cut the wires to the fuel pump 3 inches from the flange of the fuel pump and discard the wires. Figure 1.

4. Connect the RFI filter (ZZL0 FF 003) connectors to the spade terminals on the fuel pump.

5. Cut and solder both the red and black wires of the RFI filter to the red and black wires of the flange.

6. Use shrink tubing over the solder connections. Secure the RFI filter to the fuel pump and sender assembly with bundling strap (ZZL0 FF 004) to prevent rattling the tank.

7. Reinstall the fuel pump sender assembly into the fuel tank as outlined in the Navajo Workshop Manual, Section F-03.
