TWISTED SAFETY BELTS
DESCRIPTION
The seat belt webbing on manually operated restraint systems can become twisted at the "D" ring and/or at the "safety belt tongue."
This problem occurs when the belt or belt tongue is rotated during belt extension or retraction.
Follow the procedures listed in this bulletin to unravel twisted belts.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
Safety Belt Twisted at "D" Ring.
1. Grasp the belt webbing at the "D" ring as shown on the right side of Figure 1.
2. Rotate and fold the belt webbing over itself as required to remove the twist.
3. When completed, the safety belt should look like the belt shown on the left side of Figure 2.
Safety Belt Tongue Rotated on Belt:
1. Grasp the belt tongue and pull down the webbing closest to you to form a loop through the upper (narrower) slot in the tongue. Figure 3 (left side).
2. Working within the upper slot, rotate and fold the belt webbing over itself as needed to remove the twist.
3. Pull the excess belt webbing back through the upper slot in the tongue.
4. Repeat the above steps as necessary to remove the twist at the lower (wider) slot in the tongue. Figure 3 (right side).
5. When completed, the safety belt should look like the belt shown in the left side of Figure 2.
