DESCRIPTION

A rattling noise heard inside the steering column and a loose tilt control lever may be caused by a dislocated tilt control return spring lever.

If these symptoms are noticed, perform the following removal and installation procedures.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION PROCEDURES

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Remove the steering wheel. (Refer to Section N-04 of the Workshop Manual).

3. Remove the plastic collar from the tilt flange.

4. Move the tilt flange to its uppermost position.

5. Remove the tilt lever cap and spring.

INSTALLATION

1. Insert the shaft of the tilt lever cap into the tilt lever spring with a twisting motion until the spring touches the head of the cap. The barbs on the shaft of the cap will hold the spring in place.

2. Pull the tilt lever up as far as possible. While holding the lever in this position, insert the spring and cap assembly into the hole in the tilt flange below the lever Release the lever.

3. Actuate the tilt lever several times to ensure that the cap and spring assembly are seated correctly.

4. Move the tilt flange to its center position.

5. Install the plastic collar on the tilt flange.

6. Install the steering wheel. (Refer to Section N-04 of the Workshop Manual).

7. Reconnect the battery cable.
