Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Procedure 1: Tire Mismatch

1. Compare the installed tire and wheel sizes to the sizes listed on the vehicle certification label in the driver's door jamb. If the tires and wheels match the certification label, proceed to step 4.

2. If the tires and wheels do not match the certification label, compare the tires and wheels to the list of optional tires in the sales department of your dealership. If they match the listed tires, proceed to step 4.

3. If the tires and wheels do not match the certification label or the optional tires list, swap known good tires and wheels (ones that match the label or list) for evaluation purposes.

4. Set the tire pressure to the value on the certification label.

5. Spin the front tires to be sure that the front hubs are unlocked. If the hubs are unlocked, the axle shaft will not rotate with the wheels.

6. Swap the front tires (left to right, right to left) and road test. If the pull is not corrected, go to step 7.

7. Swap the rear tires (left to right, right to left) and road test. If the pull is not corrected, go to step 8.

8. Swap the tires from front to rear. Be sure to set the tire pressures to the correct values for the front and rear. Road test the vehicle.

NOTE:
On drift concerns involving vehicles with limited slip differentials, it may be necessary to measure the tire circumference and place a matched set of tires on the rear axle.
