Recall Campaign No. 40103 1991 Navajo Rear Bumper Reinforcement

Mazda Motor of America, Inc. has decided to conduct recall campaigns for the 1991 model Navajo Fuel Tank Heat Shield and Rear Bumpers commencing April 1, 1991.

No. 39103 The fuel tank front heat shield extension may be in
contact with the right front top corner of the fuel tank resulting in damage to the fuel tank.

Therefore, it is necessary to reposition the front heat shield and inspect the fuel tank. Your service department needs to evaluate any damage to the fuel tank and replace the fuel tank if needed.

No. 40103 The rear bumper reinforcement could develop a crack
below the inner arm attachments if the rear bumper is utilized for towing.

Therefore, it is necessary to inspect the rear bumper for cracking and replace the rear bumper with a modification kit should a crack 1-3/8" or longer be present. If no crack or a crack less than 1-3/8" in length is present, it will be necessary to install the rear bumper reinforcement kit.

Detailed procedures for this campaign are shown on Attachment I. The letter to be sent to the owners is shown on Attachment II.

If the subject vehicles are in your inventory, you are requested to complete the necessary-repair work for them. Also, please check the VIN range of vehicles received by your dealership after April 1, 1991 and perform any needed inspection or repair at the time of P.D.I.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact your District Service Manager or Regional/Distributor office.

Please make certain that your service personnel are familiar with the details of this campaign so that they will be able to respond to customer inquiries.

Your cooperation in carrying out these Recall Campaigns with minimum inconvenience to the customer would be appreciated.
