Component Tests and General Diagnostics

The automatic transmission fluid level should be checked as follows:
1. Place transmission in Park, then allow engine to idle with foot brake applied and vehicle on a level surface.
2. Clean all dirt from the transmission dipstick cap, before removing from the filler tube.
3. With the transmission at operating temperature (between 150-170°F), the dipstick should be hot to the touch. Fluid level should be within the cross hatched area.
4. With transmission cold (70-95°F), fluid level should be between the middle and top holes.
5. When adding fluid, use Dexron II or equivalent. Use of a fluid other than that specified, could result in transmission malfunction and/or failure.
