Cruise Control: Description and Operation

Operation
The cruise control system electronically controls vehicle speed through the use of integrated electronics. No vacuum-operated components are used in this system. The servo motor moves the throttle through the actuator cable.

To operate the cruise control system, the engine must be running and vehicle speed must be greater than 48 km/h (30 mph). The system is turned on by pressing the ON switch of the cruise control switch assembly.

Then, the operator must depress and release the SET/ACCEL switch. This results in the current speed being maintained until a new speed is set, the brake pedal is depressed or the OFF switch is depressed.

NOTE
^ Only one switch button should be depressed at a time, because the cruise control system will accept only one command at a time.

Increasing Set Speed
Pressing and holding the SET/ACCEL speeds up the can The vehicles speed increases as long as SET/ACCEL is depressed. Releasing SET/ACCEL gives the system a new set speed to maintain. Vehicle speed may also be increased by depressing the accelerator until the higher speed is reached, then depressing and releasing SET/ACCEL.

Tap Up Feature
Current vehicle set speed may be increased 1.6 km/h (1 mph) by a momentary tap of the SET/ACCEL switch. Multiple taps of the SET/ACCEL switch will cause vehicle speed to increase in increments of 1.6 km/h (1 mph).

Decreasing Set Speed
Pressing and holding COAST slows down the vehicle. The vehicle speed decreases as long as COAST is depressed. Releasing COAST gives the system a new set speed to maintain.

Vehicle speed may also be decreased by depressing the brake pedal until the lower speed is reached, then depressing and releasing SET/ACCEL.

NOTE
^ It vehicle speed is reduced below 48 km/h (30 mph), then the driver must manually increase the speed over 48 km/h (30 mph) and reset the system.

Tap Down Feature
Current vehicle set speed may be decreased 1.6 km/h (1 mph) by a momentary tap of the COAST switch. Multiple taps of the COAST switch will cause vehicle speed to decrease in increments of 1.6 km/h (1 mph).

Resume
When the system has been deactivated by depressing the brake or clutch pedal, the last set speed may be resumed by pressing RESUME. This feature will not work if OFF has been depressed, if vehicle speed is below 48 km/h (30 mph) or if the ignition switch has been turned off.
