Pinpoint Test 7
Flow Chart No. 7 - Symptom Tachometer inoperative.Step 1
Check fuse.
1. Check Fuse 11 (7.5 A).
2. Is fuse OK?
Step 2
Check wiring.
1. Check for loose wiring connections in engine compartment or at instrument cluster.
2. Is wiring OK?
Step 3
Make resistance checks.
CAUTION
^ Before checking the continuity of any circuit, make sure there is no voltage present in the circuit prior to switching the test equipment to the resistance function to avoid damage to equipment. Refer to test equipment user's manual for additional information.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove instrument cluster and make resistance and voltage checks at wiring harness connector as follows:
Check 16-pin connector Pin 1 (B/Y) resistance to chassis ground - should read 1 ohm or less. Check 16-pin connector Pin 2 (T/Y) to Pin 48 of PCM connector. Resistance should be 1 ohm or less.
CAUTION
^ Make sure multi meter is in the voltage function and not in the resistance function to avoid damage to the multi meter.
Connect battery. Turn key on. Check for battery voltage at PCM connector, Pin (T/Y). Turn key off. Disconnect battery.
2. Is resistance within specifications?
