Installation





1. Install the transmission in the vehicle, referring to the following.
a. Make sure that the machined mating surfaces and the locating dowels are free of burrs, dirt, and paint.
b. Install the transmission on Transmission Jack 007-0008, or equivalent
c. Position the transmission in the vehicle and align the primary shaft splices with the clutch disc.
d. Install the transmission bolts and flat-washers. Tighten to 38 - 51 Nm (28 - 37 ft. lbs.).
e. Install the crossmember, insulator and damper. Tighten to 88 - 115 Nm (65 - 84 ft. lbs.).
2. Install the starter motor.
3. Install the transfer case.
4. Install the propeller shaft.
5. Connect the park/neutral position and back-up light switches.
6. Install the exhaust system.
7. Connect the hydraulic clutch line and bleed the clutch system.
8. Install the speedometer cable.
9. Add the specified amount and type of transmission oil.
10. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
11. Connect the negative battery cable.
12. Install the gear shift lever, referring to the following.
a. Install the gear shift lever bolt. Note: Install the stud so the flat side of the non-threaded portion is facing toward the left (driver side). Tighten to 27 - 40 Nm (20 - 30 ft. lbs.).
b. Install the shift lever boot and install the screws.
13. Test drive the vehicle and check the transmission operation.
