Inspection
Inspect each of the items listed below. Repair or replaceif necessary.
1. Transfer case and chain cover for cracks, damage or damaged mating surfaces.
2. Verify that there is no discoloration of the oil pump housing, gear or cover.
NOTE: Do not disassemble the oil pump.
3. Inspect the oil pump bore and rear output shaft lube holes for oil. If oil is apparent, the pump is working.
4. Front input shaft, rear input shaft and output shaft for wear, damage or damaged teeth.
5. Front input shaft, rear input shaft and output shaft for clogged oil passages.
6. Sun gear, speedometer drive gear and ring gear for wear, damage or damaged teeth.
7. Drive or front drive sprocket for wear, damage or damaged teeth.
8. H-L hub, 2W-4W lockup assembly or planet carrier for wear, damage or damaged teeth.
9. Bearings for rough operation or noise while turning.
10. Shift rail, 2W-4W shift fork or H-L shift fork for damage.
11. Shift spring for weakness.
