Flow Chart No. 2: Windshield Wipers Inoperative
Flow Chart No. 2 - Symptom- Windshield washers inoperative - all switch positions.Step 1
Preliminary checks.
1. Check fuses for continuity; check connections for clean, tight fit; check for loose or damaged wires.
2. Do components and wiring check OK?
Step 2
On-demand self test.
1. Connect NGS Tester 49 T088 0A0 to DLC. Retrieve continuous DTCs. Perform on-demand self test.
2. Are any DTCs retrieved with the NGS Tester?
Step 3
Check R circuit between run/park relay and power feed.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE
^ Some abnormal drive symptoms may occur after the battery has been disconnected and reconnected. The vehicle may have to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to allow the PCM to relearn the adaptive strategy.
2. Check for damaged R wire between run/park relay and power feed.
3. Is circuit OK?
Step 4
Check run/park relay.
1. Check for open in run/park relay coil terminals 1 and 2.
2. Is relay OK?
Step 5
Check for open in P/Y circuit between multi-function switch and GEM.
1. Disconnect multi-function switch.
2. Check for battery voltage on P/Y at switch.
3. Is the circuit OK?
Step 6
Check for short in P/Y circuit.
1. Read PID WPMODE on NGS Tester.
2. Ground P/Y at multi-function switch.
3. Does tester indicate HIGH?
Step 7
Check LB/O circuit.
1. Check for continuity to ground between LB/O and ground at multi-function switch.
2. Is there continuity?
Step 8
Check R circuit between Fuse 16 (30A) and windshield wiper motor.
1. Check Fuse 16 (30A) for continuity.
2. Is fuse good?
Step 9
Check DL/O circuit between hi/lo relay and windshield wiper motor.
1. Check for ground short in DL/O between hi/lo relay and windshield wiper motor.
2. Is circuit OK?
Step 10
Check for open circuit between run/park relay and hi/lo relay.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Check for open in R between run/park relay and hi/lo relay contacts.
3. Is circuit OK?
Step 11
Check B/P circuit between run/park relay and hi/lo relay for short to ground.
1. Gain access to run/park relay.
2. With key OFF, check B/P at run/park relay for continuity to ground.
3. Is continuity present?
Step 12
Check B wire circuit for open.
1. Check for open in B wire between wiper motor park sense terminal and power feed.
2. Is circuit OK?
Step 13
Check ground circuit.
1. Check for open in B wire between windshield wiper motor and ground.
2. Is circuit OK?
Step 14
Functional test.
NOTE
^ Some abnormal drive symptoms may occur after the battery has been disconnected and reconnected. The vehicle may have to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to allow the PCM to relearn the adaptive strategy.
1. Reconnect battery ground cable.
2. Connect NGS Tester 49 T088 0A0 to data link connector (DLC).
3. Run wiper control functional test.
4. Energize run/park relay.
5. Do wipers function?
Step 15
Check wiper motor.
1. Check windshield wiper motor for open on ground side.
2. Does windshield wiper motor check OK?
