Exterior Lighting

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
The exterior lighting system consists of the following components:
- Headlamp assemblies (with integrated parking lamps)
- Fog lamps (if equipped)
- Multifunction switch
- Headlamp switch (with integral fog lamp switch if equipped)
- Smart junction box (SJB)
- Indicator flasher relay
- Reversing lamp switch (manual transmission)
- Digital transmission range (TR) sensor (automatic transmission)
- High mounted stoplamp
- Rear lamp assemblies
- License plate lamps
- Trailer tow connector

Headlamps
The headlamp system is a dual-beam pattern system. It consists of a low and high beam, with a replaceable bulb, the headlamp assembly has the park/turn indicator
lamp integrated into the headlamp assembly. The headlamp switch supplies voltage to the headlamps when demanded.

Stoplamps
The stoplamps are located in the rear lamp assemblies and are supplied voltage from the stop lamp switch when the brake pedal is applied.

Turn Signal/Hazard Lamps
The front turn signal lamps are located within the headlamp assemblies. When the multifunction switch is placed in the LH or RH TURN position, the multifunction switch routes voltage to the LH or RH turn signal lamps. The indicator flasher relay then cycles the voltage on and off approximately 80 times per minute. If a front or rear bulb is inoperative, the indicator flasher relay cycles the voltage on and off approximately 160 times per minute. The hazard switch is integral to the multifunction switch. when the hazard switch is engaged, the indicator flasher relay supplies voltage to all the turn lamps. The indicator flasher relay cycles the voltage on and off approximately 80 times per minute.

Parking Lamps
The parking lamp relay is controlled by the SJB. When the SJB receives a request for the parking lamps from the headlamp switch, the relay is energized and voltage is supplied to the parking lamps.

Fog Lamps
The fog lamp switch is integral to the headlamp switch. the fog lamp relay is controlled by the SJB. The fog lamps can be turned on when the ignition switch is in the RUN or ACC position, the low beam headlamps are on, and the high beam headlamps are off. When the fog lamp switch is engaged, the SJB energizes the fog lamp relay and routes voltage to the fog lamps.

Reversing Lamps
When the transmission is placed in REVERSE. the reversing lamp switch (manual transmission) or the digital TR sensor (automatic transmission) routes voltage to the reversing lamps. The reversing lamps are located within the rear lamp assemblies.

Trailer Tow
When the vehicle's parking or rear stop/turn lamp is illuminated, voltage is also sent to the trailer tow connector to power the corresponding trailer lamps.
