Removal and Installation

Caution:
^ Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. A new part with the same part number or an equivalent part must be installed, if installation is necessary. Do not use a part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.


1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Use a suitable jack to support the lower arm.





Caution:
^ To avoid possible damage to the wheel spindle/knuckle, secure the wheel spindle/knuckle to keep it from tilting before removing the pinch bolt and nut.


3. Remove and discard the upper ball joint nut and pinch bolt, and separate the balljoint from the wheel spindle/knuckle.
^ To install, tighten to 63 N-m (6.4 kgf-m, 46 ft-lbf).

Note:
^ Upper arm nuts must be tightened at curb height.

4. Remove and discard the 2 upper arm nuts, flag bolts and set shims.
^ To install, tighten to 133 N-m (13.6 kgf-m, 98 ft-lbf).
^ Remove the upper arm.

Note:
^ Make sure. that the set shims are installed in their original positions.

5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Check and, if necessary, align the front end.
